The Benefits of Meditation

One of the first things that comes to mind when you think about a spiritual practice is meditation. It’s true, meditation is a foundational part of spiritual health. And there are many, many activities that will connect you to your “true and wise Self” or Soul:

  • Dance
  • Music
  • Gardening
  • Biking
  • A walk in the woods
  • A long hot shower
  • Writing or journaling
  • Playing with your kids

All of these activities can serve to ‘build the muscle of your connection’ with your Soul or your Essence, but only if you bring that intention to what you’re doing. This intention is often called mindfulness: an awareness of how the experience is enhancing or developing your ‘Soul connection.’

After more than 23 years of meditation, and seeing the impact it has had on my life, I strongly recommend developing a meditation practice that will allow you to bring mindfulness to every aspect of your life. A daily practice is key: the more you do, the better you get, and the stronger the connection becomes.

Specifically, I suggest consistency over perfection in your practice. Doing something, anything, daily is more important than a specific form or depth of experience. You will benefit from even 1 or 2 minutes of the most basic form of meditation:

  • Stop doing anything
  • Breathe deeply and relax
  • Observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment

This simple practice will deepen over time, and eventually have a huge impact on your life. How long it takes for you to see results depends on your situation, and the benefits you experience will radically increase if you are aware of what meditation can do for you:

  • Anchor into the present moment. You will spend less time in the “guilty past” or in the “fearful future” and more time in the present moment, where you have access to the life-force energy that is you, tapped into the infinite loving abundance that is the substance of your Soul and the Universe. This energy is the source of your personal power or ability to create your life exactly as you want. The present moment is your opportunity to fully enjoy what you are experiencing.
  •  Develop your ‘observer Self’. When you sit quietly and become aware of the landscape of your internal experience, you begin to distinguish between the part of you that is watching, and the part of you that is taking action. Space is created between your ‘observer Self’ and the experience of something, and then the choices you make. Instead of being consumed by ‘what happens,’ you will instead observe the activity and realize that you have the time and space to make a variety of choices that will shape the quality of your experiences. Eventually, you realize that this ‘observer Self’ is your true wise Self or your Soul and when you make choices from this part of yourself, you’re acting from your personal power. You will make choices and decisions that are true to your Self AND are congruent with what you want – claiming your power in the process.
  •  Build your IAM identity. When you meditate you notice your thoughts. As you develop your ‘observer Self’ you will learn to distinguish between thoughts that come from Drama (fear, doubt, and scarcity) and thoughts that come from your Essential Best (love, confidence, and abundance). A common practice is to notice your fearful thoughts and say to yourself, “I am not fear. I am experiencing fear” or “fear is arising”. You can then anchor more deeply into your Soul by saying to yourself “I am infinite loving abundance” or whatever affirmation works for you. Using this practice over time disconnects your identity from your Drama self or ego, and reconnects your identity with your IAM or Soul – the highest potential version of yourself.
  •  Reduce your stress. The more you identify with your Soul, the less you will react to Drama which causes unnecessary stress. The more you meditate, the easier it is for your body to return to a relaxed state following a stressful event. Ultimately you will lower the adrenaline and cortisol (fight or flight hormones) coursing through your body. The negative impact of these stress hormones has been found to include: impaired cognitive function, high blood pressure, suppressed immune response, and endocrine system imbalances. Meditation creates a healthier balance between all of the organs and systems of your body so the healing life-force energy of your Soul can freely flow.

Given what happens when you meditate, I have discovered the following benefits, which I know you can experience as well:

  • You become aware of what you experience instead of being numb
  • You identify with your powerful, abundant, positive Self
  • You eventually are no longer controlled by obsessive and fearful thoughts
  • You experience calm and centered confidence
  • You learn to choose thoughts and beliefs that create what you want
  • You make decisions that are right and good for you and others
  • You better handle fear, doubt, and scarcity because you are connected with your Soul
  • You know what you want and like because you notice what feels good
  • You encounter more emotions, both positive and negative
  • As you have more feelings, you develop your internal navigation system
  • Your true and wise Self is more engaged in your experiences
  • Happiness and joy emerge, which are aspects of your true nature
  • You are less reactive and more creative, resourceful, and innovative
  • You experience your abundant Self, and abundant prosperity
  • You are healthier, smarter, and more resilient
  • You feel more powerful and in control of your life

And this is only the beginning! I could keep going on and on with this list…

As you can see, meditation is a foundational part of your spiritual, mental, emotional, AND physical health! With a consistent daily practice, any and all of your life activities can become more mindful.  You too will experience these benefits of meditation when you remember to make use of the connection you are establishing with your Soul throughout the day.

Even better, when mindfulness is combined with other spiritual practices such as affirmations, guided imagery, exercise, music/dance, sex, play, or time in nature, the benefits are even greater.

I was motivated to develop the Personal Power Pathway program because I know the benefits and impact of meditation are so huge. There are two things you’ll need to keep in mind if you want to experience the benefits I’ve described here:

  • Context. Keep in mind what is possible when you combine affirmations and meditation. Our intention is not a series of momentary ‘feel good’ experiences. By “knowing the territory” of meditation as I’ve described here, you can consciously and actively claim your personal power, reduce stress, and develop the capacity to create what you want.
  • Embodiment. Traditional eastern meditation practices are passive and mainly spiritual in focus. Our approach is holistic, combining head/thoughts, spirit/energy, heart/emotions, and body/physical awareness. Each day is designed to allow the experience to integrate into your whole being, so you can actively bring mindfulness into your everyday life, and shift from unconsciously reacting to life, to responding to life,  to consciously creating all that you want in life.

The good news is that with advancing spiritual technologies, you don’t have to wait 23 years to achieve the benefits I’ve gained from meditation! We are so excited to share what we’ve learned with you here, so you too can create what you want in both work and life.
